{"id":17,"date":"2017-07-25T22:58:55","date_gmt":"2017-07-25T22:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ctas-phctas.ca\/?page_id=17"},"modified":"2024-03-07T12:23:04","modified_gmt":"2024-03-07T17:23:04","slug":"17-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/ctas-phctas.ca\/?page_id=17","title":{"rendered":"CTAS Introduction"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div id=\"content-area\">\n<div id=\"node-127\" class=\"node node-type-page build-mode-full clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p><strong>CTAS is a tool that enables Emergency Departments (ED) to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prioritize patient care and access requirements<\/li>\n<li>Examine patient flow and care processes<\/li>\n<li>Complement other workload, case mix, and resource requirement measures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The CTAS supports ED nurses and physicians to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Triage patients according to acuity, risk, and care needs based on their presenting signs and symptoms<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that the sickest and highest risk patients are seen first when ED capacity has been exceeded<\/li>\n<li>Reassess patients required to wait for a treatment space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The CTAS allows ED managers to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Capture and analyze ED patient visit based on volume, acuity and by CEDIS presenting complaint<\/li>\n<li>Determine whether the ED has an operational plan and the resources to meet patient needs<\/li>\n<li>Assess the ED&#8217;s role within the hospital and health care region<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The triage level assigned using the CTAS criteria is a mandatory data element to be used in all Canadian Hospital Emergency Departments for reporting to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihi.ca\/\">Canadian Institute for Health Information<\/a> (CIHI).<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The CTAS National Advisory Committee, a partnership between NENA and CAEP, conducts regular reviews of the CTAS guideline and educational materials and will publish updates when changes are required.
